I can't imagine how bad it would suck to be the Yankees shortstop this year. Makes me think who has it been worst to follow up?

I'm sure the guy who stepped in for Lou Gehrig (had the greatest streak in sports history at the time, sure fire hall of famer) had to feel like a real nobody, especially after he gave one of the greatest speeches of all time
More recently I have to go Jay Fiddler. Who is that? The QB who took over for Dan Marino. Dan had every record you could have for a QB when he hung it up and a pure legend. And in Miami the curse of Marino still exists, still don't have anybody even close to a great QB 16 years later

When you consider how it went down, Brett Favre. Rodgers was about to start his first training camp as a starter and all of a sudden Favre wants to come back.

I can't imagine how bad it would suck to be the Yankees shortstop this year. Makes me think who has it been worst to follow up? Jeter slashed 256/304/313 his final year. The year before, he hit .190 in just 17 games before missing the entire season. In 2012 he had a decent year, but that was also after 2 of his worst seasons in the bigs. And his defense was average at best, and went pretty downhill the last few years of his career. Short answer, I disagree that following Jeter will be tough. He can be absolutely average and be just as much, if not more, of an impact than Jeter. If you wanna talk about "intangibles" and all that b/s that ESPN feeds you, then yea Jeter is the GOAT and he will be impossible to replace. But I look into what he actually did on the field, which wasn't all that great his last 4-5 years. Following up living legend and GOAT A.J. McCarron was thought to be insurmountable. Makes what Blake Sims did this past year all the more impressive

I'd say Dan Marino considering its been 15 years since he retired and Tannehill is the first QB the fins have had who might be decent enough to start long term for the Fins

Whoever plays short for the Yanks will be compared to Jeter at his best for a longtime.

Whoever plays short for the Yanks will be compared to Jeter at his best for a longtime. I don't think that's true. Everyone seems to be keeping expectations for Gregorious in check. He's an obvious defensive upgrade and he doesn't have to do much with the bat to improve on what Jeter brought to the table the last few years. Had we ended up bringing in Tulo or someone of that ilk then the expectations would be off the charts.

What kind of retard thinks "worst to follow up" is an intelligible phrase? I read the thread just to see what the fuck it meant. And I looked up Jeter's last 5 years combined stats for funsies (although I agree that the NYC media/ESPN won't see it this way): .283/.340/.374 .713 OPS 94 OPS+

He was just freakishly long, the thing had no girth. Sloppy seconds would certainly be a cess pool, but he wouldn't wreck her either.
