welp nm
The touchdown run lifted Mason's final rushing figure for the 2013 season to 1,816 yards, past Jackson's Auburn single-season record of 1,786 and into third place on the SEC's all-time single-season rushing list.
That's what next season's record books will show. But in an apples-to-apples comparison, Mason didn't run for more yards this season than Jackson did during the 1985 season. That's because until the 2002 season, bowl statistics were not included in any team or individual single-game, single-season or career records. So while Mason got credit for the 195 rushing yards he gained against Florida State on Monday night, Jackson didn't get credit for his 129 rushing yards against Texas A&M in the Cotton Bowl to end the 1985 season.
Let Jackson have his bowl output, and his 1985 rushing yardage is 1,915 - 99 more yards than Mason ran for this season.

Apples and Oranges. Give Bo Gus's offense, tempo, and Greg Robinson and he'd have had more rushing yards. Tre Mason is a helluva running back, I'd argue top 10 all time for AU. However, Bo is not only the greatest RB to come through Auburn, but one of, if not the greatest athlete in modern sports history.

AUBURN – Auburn’s football team returned to the field Tuesday for the ninth practice of the spring. The first 20 minutes were open to reporters.
***
During the viewing period, wide receivers Marcus Davis and Jason Smith worked alone on catching punts.
***
Wide receivers Ricardo Louis and Stanton Truitt, safety Rudy Ford and running back Roc Thomas worked on kickoff returns.
***
On the first snap of the day, during early-practice warmups/drills, the backfield included quarterback Jeremy Johnson, running back Peyton Barber and h-back Chandler Cox. What did it mean? Probably not much, because running backs Jovon Robinson and Roc Thomas and h-back Kamryn Pettway also quickly got snaps with Johnson at quarterback.
***
The Orange (No. 1) offensive line included Shon Coleman at left tackle, Devonte Danzey at left guard, Austin Golson at center, Braden Smith at right guard and Avery Young at right tackle.
The Blue (No. 2) group included Robert Leff at left tackle, Alex Kozan at left guard, Xavier Dampeer at center, Will Adams at right guard and freshman Bailey Sharp at right tackle.
Jordan Diamond also worked with the Blue team at right guard and freshman Tyler Carr at left guard.
***
Numerous former Auburn players were on hand. Among them were former quarterbacks Chris Todd and Tom Bryan, former defensive lineman Benji Roland, former cornerback Rod Hood and former defensive tackle Gabe Wright.

Nation's No. 1 recruit to visit Auburn Keith Niebuhr - 22 hours ago 25 Auburn Newsletter 0 19 Five-star defensive tackle Rashan Gary, the country's No. 1 overall prospect, plans to visit Auburn in April, his mother told Steve Wiltfong of 247Sports on Monday.
"Sometime this month he’ll go there with kids from school,” Jennifer Coney said.
Also getting visits during the same tour: Alabama and Ole Miss.
Gary, a standout at Paramus (N.J.) Catholic, visited Clemson, Georgia and South Carolina last weekend.
“It was very eventful and we saw the colleges and learned about the academics and the athletics and toured the campuses,” Coney said. “Rashan is no closer to making a decision then he was when he left.”
Gary plans to wait until National Signing Day before announcing his college plans.
Auburn has been heavily recruiting the 6-foot-4, 290-pound Gary since earlier this year.
The Tigers have a major need at defensive tackle in the 2016 cycle and hope to land players with immediate impact ability at that spot.
At the moment, the 247Sports Crystal Ball favors Alabama. The Tide is getting 58 percent of the predictions for Gary.

Jovon Robinson, RB, Auburn
The dynamic Robinson, who bounced back to the Tigers from Georgia Military College (he originally signed with and enrolled at Auburn before transferring), broke off a long touchdown run during Auburn’s recent scrimmage and appears to be the favorite to replace departed starting running back Cameron Artis-Payne. That means that the thought, which several college coaches and recruiting analysts expressed when he was a recruit, that Robinson could potentially enter the Heisman mix this season on the plains is alive. Tigers back-up quarterback Sean White praised Robinson, saying that the 229-pounder had the “speed to take it the distance” and that he “easily” breaks arm tackles.
Robinson was the No. 1 junior college prospect in the 2015 cycle per 247Sports Composite rankings.

Hoops recruits believe in Auburn's future Justin Hokanson - 7 hours ago VIP5 Auburn Newsletter 2 15 AUBURN - Auburn finished the basketball season 15-20 overall, giving Bruce Pearl his first losing season of his coaching career. It wasn't an ideal first year for Pearl in terms of wins and losses, but the positives in Pearl's first year far outweigh the negatives.
New Williams watched Auburn baskteball games on the SEC Network in Santa Monica, California. The three-day run in the SEC Tournament helped eliminate the sour taste of the season, winning three games and advancing to the tournament semifinals before losing to then No. 1 Kentucky.
Auburn has the No. 12 recruiting class with four early signees, with Top247 forward Horace Spencer committed. With sellout crowds at Auburn Arena, quality wins over NCAA Tournament teams Xavier, LSU, Georgia and Texas Southern, and there's reason for optimism.
"I think the future is bright," Spencer told AuburnUndercover. "They showed what they are capable of in the conference tournament. They played hard every game, they played together. I was one of the happiest people watching that. I was excited. All odds against them, they showed up and fought. They have a fighting spirit."
Spencer will sign with Auburn on April 15.
"The day I committed, I was so excited," Spencer said. "I am even more excited now that I'm going there. Today, I feel like I'm already an Auburn Tiger."
New Williams, a 4-star signee from Los Angeles, raved about the Tigers' grit this season. It was never more evident than in the final game of the season against the top-ranked Wildcats.
"It was a rough season, but I really liked this team," Williams said. "They had heart. They have fight. My favorite game was the last Kentucky game, because Kentucky was undefeated and for us to be even within 12-15 points in the second half, without (Cinmeon) Bowers, it shows that Coach Pearl is a great coach and he made his team believe. They gave everything they had for themselves and for him. It goes to show you how much of an impact he has on his team."
Pearl is why Williams believes in his, and Auburn's future.
"I feel reassured," Williams said. "Coaches tell you that you'll start or be a star player, but none of that matters. I feel that Coach Pearl is a great coach and no matter what they said or who they think is better, if I'm going to start, I'm going to fight for a starting job. I'm the type of player that's going to give all they have so my teammates see that in me. The recruiting game, that's all nice, but none of that matters. That's what I plan on doing, that's what I see and have learned from Coach Pearl."
Danjel Purifoy was the state of Alabama's top prospect before transferring to Hargrave Military Academy for his final season. Purifoy, a 4-star forward, visited Auburn many times under previous coach Tony Barbee. Auburn was always in the running for Purifoy, but solidified their position upon Pearl's arrival.
"I think they played well, they played better than when Barbee was there," Purifoy said. "There is going to be a change. I think it's because of the coaching and how they're playing. I'm ready to get there and play."
With the addition of a recruiting class and potentially a fifth-year transfer, Auburn hopes to add size and talent to the roster before next season. Bryce Brown, a 3-star guard from Atlanta who Pearl compares to departing all-conference guard KT Harrell, sees the future bright and clear.
"I think at times their size didn't help them, they were one of the smaller teams, but that will begin to change next year," Brown said. "Auburn making the semifinals of the tournament, they were fighting. We're always the underdog. We're bringing in new recruits, the team fought hard and we'll make progress on that next year.
"I feel better heading into Auburn this year knowing that the first year and the tournament run -- I like what I've seen."
Pearl's job building the Auburn program won't be easy, but the support of a talented recruiting class is a good start.
“We have a long way to go to get where we want to be," Pearl said. "We have a plan to get there, we’ve made progress and I’m confident we’ll get there.”

Lashlee says Johnson is very capable of running the zone-read. He's a lot better north-south than Nick.
Lashlee says they want eight or so vertical shots per game.
Lashlee on Jeremy Johnson's goals of 3,000 passing and 1,000 rushing: "It's possible. I like that he is setting high goals for himself."

Nate Craig-Myers committed to Auburn in July of 2014, and has remained committed heading into the summer before his senior season. Craig-Myers, a 5-star receiver from Tampa, Fla., is the nation's No. 19 overall prospect in the 247Sports Composite. He has offers from every major college program in the country.
Nate Craig-Myers is visiting Auburn this week. (Photo: Justin Hokanson, 247Sports) The question is, will Craig-Myers stay committed to Auburn and sign with the Tigers on next February?
"I'm committed to Auburn and I wanted to come get a feel for it again," Craig-Myers told AuburnUndercover. "I went with my heart and I feel like it was the right decision. It gets stronger whenever I talk with the coaches -- it gets stronger and stronger every day."
Craig-Myers said he committed to Auburn last summer due to the relationship with Coach Craig and the atmosphere. "Nothing has changed," Craig-Myers said. "Coach Craig is loyal."
Craig-Myers is currently in the middle of a four-day visit to Auburn, where Gus Malzahn, Rhett Lashlee, Dameyune Craig and Co. are hoping to strengthen their position with Craig-Myers.
AuburnUndercover caught up with the nation's top-rated receiver on Monday evening, where Craig-Myers discussed the state of his commitment to Auburn and more. The transcript of Craig-Myers' interview is below the video.
Make sure and select the HD setting for high-quality viewing, and turn the volume up.
When you committed, what was the reason? "The relationship I had with Coach Craig and it's a family atmosphere. I can compete right away and get on the field."
What have you learned since? "Nothing really changed, hearing from other guys, Coach Craig is still loyal and he's keeping it '100' with you."
How do you balance staying committed and visiting other programs? "It doesn't bother me. I wanted to see what other programs have to offer. I have a commitment to Auburn and I know what I have here. A good home, a family that's going to back me up, a family away from home. I have a great group of coaches that will push me."
What has Auburn told you regarding visiting other programs? "They support me 100 percent. They want me to see what other schools have so I can compare and see if I made the right decision."
Do you think you made the right decision? "I know I do."
Where do you see your recruitment going from now until signing day? "Because you go visit another place, they think it's going to be a roller coaster. As long as I know where I want to go, it's going to be straight. I can recruit players to come play with me."
Are you recruiting players for Auburn? "I'm trying to get the best of the best."
Who are the top contenders to Auburn? "I'm not sure, I haven't given it much thought."
How can Auburn strengthen their position with you from now until signing day? "They showed me all they have, just being able to keep visiting and keep a great relationship, that's all they have to show."
What's your message to fans that follow your recruitment, and Auburn fans that hope you remain committed? "War Eagle and I'm ready to get this show on the road."

The Lord's work never ceases
Rhett Lashlee Q&A: The QB race, the running backs and more Phillip Marshall - 7 minutes ago 0 Auburn Newsletter 0 0 AUBURN – Rhett Lashlee, Auburn’s offensive coordinator, says Jeremy Johnson and Sean White, the front-runners in the race to be Auburn’s starting quarterback, have been steady throughout spring practice. But he wants more. He wants more than what he saw in last Saturday’s scrimmage. He wants great.
Rhett Lashlee says steady not enough for Auburn quarterbacks (Photo: Anthony Hall, 247Sports) “Jeremy and Sean have been solid,” Lashlee said after Tuesday’s practice, the ninth of the spring. They haven’t made a lot of mistakes. They know the offense. They are doing what they are supposed to do. I just want, in the last six practices, for those guys to take the next step and go from being steady to being great. The tough throw when a guy is covered but we have to drop it in right there, I expect them to do that every time. We have to get the ball in the end zone more than we did the other day.”
Johnson is the veteran, heading toward his third year in the program. White is a redshirt freshman. True freshman Tyler Queen was an early enrollee. Despite the widespread belief that Johnson is already locked in as the starter, Lashlee says the race is still on.
“Oh, yeah,” Lashlee said. “No one has earned a spot yet. That’s at every position. We compete. It doesn’t matter if it looks like it’s leaning one way or the other, we’re still going to compete. You want to know as a coach how a guy will respond. … I want to know how a guy who got elevated to the first spot going to respond? How is the guy that dropped down going to respond?”
Lashlee said he has been impressed with Queen’s maturity and approach.
“You can tell he’s grown up around the game,” Lashlee said. “He’s a coach’s kid, a smart young man. He really tries to soak in everything you are telling him. He did a good job Saturday in the scrimmage. That’s kind of become a tradition here, that your first scrimmage you get to be live. He did a good job. He extended some drives, threw a touchdown on a scramble play.
Lashlee was not pleased that the defense dominated Saturday’s scrimmage. He says he expects more when the team goes back to Jordan-Hare Stadium on Saturday.
“Overall, we had some bright spots in the scrimmage, but I didn’t think we performed to the standard we want to for the first scrimmage,” Lashlee said. “We are obviously looking forward to the second one this Saturday. We worked hard toward that today.”
Do you see Jeremy becoming a 1,000-yard rusher
“He’s capable. Jeremy is very athletic. Let’s not forget he had a lot of SEC basketball offers and was probably the best basketball player in our state. Jeremy needs to worry about winning the job and trying to be the best he can be right now. However, I do like that you set high goals for yourself. That’s what you want.
“… Jeremy is very capable of running the zone read. He just has to read it appropriately, and when he does he’s going to gain yards. He’s shown that in spring ball. He’s had some long runs. What he can’t do is be wrong and make it right as much on the perimeter. Jeremy is more north-south.”
What have you seen out of the competition at running back?
“You know, anytime you get the first live scrimmage you start to see more separation. I think all three of them did some things well and did some things not so well.
“You look at a guy like Roc Thomas. He had some good runs. He is so athletic and so talented he thinks he can take every one of them to the house. Well, in our league, there are some pretty good players on defense. Sometimes there is nothing wrong with a 4-, 5-, 6-yard run. You have to be more of a one-cut guy, stick your foot in the ground and get north and south and be willing to take the 4-, 5- and 6-yard runs knowing that if you do that enough you are going to be good enough to pop some big ones. I think now and then he tries to make the home run play happen and we end up going sideways.
“We need for him to play downhill a little more, but I thought from a pass protection standpoint, all three of those guys did a good job. I thought Jovon Robinson did some nice things in the run game for his first scrimmage. I think things are starting to slow down. He’s not as far as long along as Peyton and Roc knowing the offense, and he shouldn’t be. But things are starting to slow down for him. He didn’t have a lot of busts in the scrimmage.”
Is there any separation at center?
“We saw some things in the scrimmage from Austin Golson that are promising, sort of in-scrimmage things that he saw and kind of adjusted. I think Xavier Dampeer is having a good spring ball. That’s been a real bright spot for us. He’s solid. He’s steady. Both of them are snapping the ball well. That’s first and foremost. We didn’t have any bad snaps in the center. As a whole, it was a solid first scrimmage. It wasn’t exceptional.
Has there been any separation at H-back at this point?
“That’s been a big bright spot, where both those guys are just from an athleticism, a physicality, attitude and intelligence level, both Kamryn Pettway and Chandler Cox are doing very well. Kamryn is probably a little further ahead physically, but he should be. He’s been in college for a year. Chandler is supposed to be still in high school. Kamryn just has a little more physicality and bite to him. … Chandler has stuck his head in there and has made plays. He made two big catches Saturday. I’m really pleased with both of those guys and they are both going to help us next year. No question.
What have you seen from Will Muschamp's defense?
“The intensity on Saturday that they had in the scrimmage was at an all-time high since we’ve been here, in my opinion. Those guys were excited to play. They were flying around. There were some good licks. They were playing good defense. That makes both sides better.
What is the communication like with Muschamp?
“Phenomenal. I’ve loved every second of working with him. Not only is he great on the defensive side, he’s been a head coach. He gets the big picture.”

Every few years a rumor circulates that the War Eagle Supper Club is closing its doors. The rumors have always been false, until now. After 78 years of business, the War Eagle Supper Club will be closing its doors at the end of the year. The rumor once again began circulating on Facebook last night and this morning we confirmed with owner John Brandt that the rumors are true. "I hate to say it, but it's true this time," he said. "We plan to keep something going somewhere, but this venue is doomed. It's probably for the best. We've been fighting a losing battle out here. Between the city and the landlords and everybody else ... it's that time." Brandt added that the building was bought a few years ago and he thought things would be fine. "The building sold several years ago and he kept our same terms in our lease and we thought that everything was fine and the lease would be extended and basically he would have extended it, but wouldn't give us a long-term and it was going to be a lot more expensive than it is now and we just can't afford to do it," he said. "So, we're going to try to make the best of what we've got between now and then and we are going to try to relocate. It might not be the War Eagle Supper Club, but we're going to try to keep a live music venue in town." Brandt said that New Year's eve of this year will be the last night the Supper Club is open and popular Southern rock band Telluride will perform. "We're going to try to look for somewhere to go, but this building is it and we're going to go out with a bang," Brandt said.

Tre' Williams aims for more big hits Brian Stultz - 59 minutes ago 3 Auburn Newsletter 0 9 AUBURN - When sophomore linebacker Tre’ Williams was asked Tuesday about his big hit during Auburn’s first scrimmage last Saturday, he smiled.
Tre' Williams works to earn expanded role in Auburn's defense (Photo: Anthony Hall, 247Sports) “It’s just the game of football,” Williams said. “It’s just the game of football. It’s something I love. I just got my opportunity. That’s my job.”
Williams, who recorded 16 tackles last season, will look to make more of those hits as he tries to earn a bigger role under new defensive coordinator Will Muschamp.
Coming out of St. Paul’s Episcopal School in Mobile as a highly touted recruit, Williams spent most of his freshman season on special teams, struggling to adjust to the college game.
“I can’t really blame it on my class as a freshman,” Williams said. “I have to take ownership and that I didn't learn the playbook and that type of stuff. That played a lot of part of it, especially when we got to the stretch of playing all those big SEC teams. The juniors at the time knew it like the back of their hand. I couldn’t really beat that out, so I had to play my part on special teams.”
Williams says the lack of playing time was difficult mentally, but he had teammates there to help pick him up.
“A lot of guys talked to me and told me they’ve seen previous guys that didn’t’ play until their junior or senior year and they are in the league playing great right now,” Williams said. “So that is all motivation and I just got to keep working at it.”
Williams has worked this spring at both Will and Mike linebackers, which carry similar responsibilities in Muschamp's scheme.
“Last year, Coach (Ellis) Johnson had me focusing on one position,” Williams said. “This year, Coach Muschamp wants us to know everything. I’m playing the Will and the Mike. I like it a lot because, just in case any of our linebackers go down, I know I’m available.”
Williams says battling for playing time with upperclassmen Kris Frost and Cassanova McKinzy is a challenge, but he says he won't give in easily..
“They are seniors and they want to play their last year, but at the same time I’m hungry too,” Williams said. “It’s a matter of who works the hardest. That’s what Coach Muschamp is looking for.”
Williams welcomes Muschamp's demanding ways.
“His intensity is all the way up here (reaching toward ceiling), all of the time,” Williams said. “I love it. Hard coaching is always a great thing. You do something wrong, he will coach you up. Sometimes he will yell at you, but all from love. If he doesn’t yell at you, that means something’s wrong.”
With a year behind him Williams says he is ready to make his mark on the Auburn defense.
“Last year I was a special teams player,” Williams said. “This year, I want to be on special teams and defense, trying to do it all just to help the Auburn Tigers go further.”

A few Pat Dye comments today WARBIRD
WARBIRD 7342 Krew Gus Bus (4363) 32 months PM UserFollow User 14 hours ago via Mobile Reply Quote On the local radio show: And I paraphrase.
1. Jason Smith is one heck of an athlete. He caught 5 passes Saturday. But what was most impressive, is what he did after the catch. He's real fast and shifty. I don't think I've seen that kind of athlete in a long while. * He went on and on about this young man.
2. Braden Smith may be the best offensive lineman that has come through Auburn when its all said and done. * I thought that was a very bold statement by a man that has witnessed a lot of AU football.
3.He was asked if the Defense won the day. His response: Well those boys on offense weren't expecting a 3-4. I don't think they've seen too much of that. I'll put it like that.
I love some coach Dye.

Really excited about Tre Williams...think he has the talent to be one of the best linebackers we've had in a pretty long time...which is funny since I wasn't particularly high on him as a recruit

Can't wait to see the Stuhly rage this will cause. This will be 10x worse than the anger he has towards the Braves move to Cobb Co combined with his hate for the Atl burbs and transit all rolled into one.

We should hold a prayer vigil for TSC at stuhly's house
