Porcello got an extension from Boston. 4 yrs, $82.5m. Seems like a really good deal for him, although maybe he could have made more because of his age on the open market after the season.

Pretty good deal for not hitting the market. Got paid more than Shields did. Of course, he would have anyways considering his age, but I'd put him in the same tier of pitchers. I think it would have been around the same AAV on the open market. |

I think he was potentially looking at more years at lower AAV on the market, unless he breaks out and becomes Roy Halladay this year all of a sudden. That AAV is really high for a guy who has basically been a #3 starter to this point. |

I think I would've taken the $82.5M now, too. One shredded shoulder and his next deal would've been .825M, and Boston should be a fun team to play for in the near-term. He's from the Northeast, so it may be pretty ideal for his family to see him play and visit his family if or when he has kids. |
