Ohio State won a national title in football in 1968. Ohio State was number one in the AP poll when they lost their last game of the year in 1969, 1975, and 1979. They were number two when they lost their last game in 1970 and number one lost.

From 1972-1975, Michigan went 40-4-1. They went 0-3-1 against Ohio State. Both teams finished unbeaten in 1973 and tied, but the conference ADs voted Ohio State to the Rose Bowl.

Florida State from 1996 through 2000. Few more things go right they win more than 1 title those 5 years.

Spurs are already a dynasty but came two plays away from winning 5 straight from 2003-07.

As much as I hate to admit it, the 2010s Tigers are going this route. And Ohio State would have been quite the power in the 90s if Cooper had better than a 20 percent win percentage against Michigan (this is for herbburdette bringing up our similar problems with OSU in the early to mid-70s).

The Bad Boys Pistons were awfully close to winning 3 straight (losing the first one when Isiah wrecked his ankle), and lost in the ECF both the year prior to and the year after their 3 straight Finals appearances. And they really should have beaten the Celtics in the '87 ECF. That was the series they lost when Bird stole the ball in game 5 and Dantley and Microwave knocked each other out in game 7.

Yeah getting between 4th and 2nd place for 12 out of 14 years is one of the criteria for dynasty.

From 1991-2000, Cooper's teams went 30-1 in September. We could destroy ranked ND, Washington, UCLA, you name it in September. It set us up for high early rankings. Cooper then went 2-10-1 against Michigan and 3-8 in bowl games. In 13 seasons, 1998 was the only year we won our last two games. Not even close to dynasty.
